Emeritus Associate Professor Chris Breen works as an independent consultant and is a visiting faculty member at the UCT Graduate School of Business (GSB). His field of study and teaching is Complexity and the Challenges to Personal Leadership in the 21st Century.

In recent years, Chris’s main focus has been on developing and offering a three module Senior Executive Leadership Programme which has now been successfully run for Deloitte Senior Partners (4 years); Massmart (3 years); MMI(Africa) (2 years); and Groote Schuur Hospital Exco.

He has also been a visiting lecturer in Senegal, the Netherlands and France and a plenary speaker on behalf of the GSB at the Future of Learning conference held at the Ashridge Business School in England.


Chris has been Academic and Programme Director of a variety of programmes such as the GSB’s flagship Leading Executive Programme; Corporate Learning’s AngloGoldAshanti IMDP programme; and Executive Education’s Massmart Senior Executive Leadership Development Programme. He has taught on the Executive MBA programme as well as on a variety of GSB and Henley Business School custom-designed courses as well as on several other programmes for a variety of clients.

His private work has taken him to Malawi to work with the Senior Management Team of the National Bank of Malawi as well as to Nairobi and Harare where he worked with the Old Mutual Africa teams of Namibia, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Malawi and Kenya.

During his academic career, Chris received the University of Cape Town (UCT) Distinguished Teacher Award and his research record over the years was also recognised with a C+rating from the National Research Foundation.
